Dog collar buckles are either plastic or metal. If you are not the adventurous, wilderness-exploring sort, a plastic buckle will be adequate, not to mention easier to use. If your dog likes to chew things and goes on frequent outdoor excursions, however, a metal buckle will be more durable.

Dog collars are by far the most reliable for walks and provide all that’s needed for control. Harnesses are an option, but these are specifically for pets who need a firmer hand for training. There are many styles designed for varying situations, including no-pull, car, and standard.
